History - Hotel Coronado Thalasso & Spa
The Hotel Coronado Thalasso & Spa is a true icon of Cala Fornells (Paguera, Mallorca), where it commands a privileged location at one end of the eponymous beach.
At the helm of the hotel is the third generation of the Morales-Far family, who have been running the property since it first opened its doors in 1963.
The pioneer was Mallorca-born Maties Morales, who in the 1950s was working as a salesman in the textile industry. His professional and personal callings made him a regular visitor to Cala Fornells, where in 1956 – and together with the Catalan textile manufacturer Isidro Adrià – he ended up buying the plot that would then become the site of the Hotel Coronado.
Morales was a cosmopolitan and savvy self-made man. His first venture into the hotel industry took place in the early 1950s, with the opening of the Hotel Panoramic in Cala Major.
This business acumen, plus the vast experience he amassed from all the countries and hotels he had visited on his many travels, was the inspiration and motivation that later gave rise to the Coronado, which quickly became one of the very best and most forward-thinking hotels in Europe at the time.
Over these decades, Hotel Coronado has undergone regular refurbishments and upgrades. At the time, it was the first four-star hotel in Cala Fornells.
The most extensive of its upgrades will be completed in 2018, involving a whole revamp of the hotel that will once again bolster its position as one of the top hotels in its category in Mallorca for its services, amenities and location, including major new additions such as a meeting/events room, covered parking for 40 vehicles, a bike station, a renovated spa, more rooms and an extended terrace and garden, meaning that repeat guests and newcomers alike will feel even more comfortable than ever before.
